Chapter 53
Dissection
The Silvermoon Wolf plummeted helplessly from the sky, its eyes gradually losing their luster. In its dying moments, it recalled its life. As a royal of the 'Silvermoon Wolf Clan,' it had yearned since childhood to become a Lord-tier existence. It had performed admirably, reaching the peak of the high-level beast general tier, just one step away from the Lord-tier.
But then...
It was ambushed by a Warrior Squad led by a War God-tier Warrior, suffering severe injuries. Fortunately, it escaped using its renowned speed. Yet, during its flight, it encountered another Warrior Squad. If the Silvermoon Wolf had been at full strength, it could have easily annihilated this Warrior Squad.
However, it was gravely wounded.
Still, this Warrior Squad dogged its every step, relentlessly pursuing it. No matter where it fled, the squad always caught up.
“A disgusting bunch of human bastards!”
“Better to die by the hand of a Mental-force User than those bastards.” The Silvermoon Wolf possessed extremely high intelligence. As a high-level beast general of the wolf royal family, its intellect rivaled that of an ordinary Lord-tier monster, whose intelligence was generally on par with a normal human.
If it had to die, it would die by the hand of a strong one.
“Thud!”
The Silvermoon Wolf’s massive corpse crashed down, causing a crumbling wall to collapse with a roar. Luo Feng landed right after it.
“Phew, phew, I can’t believe I actually killed a Silvermoon Wolf.” Luo Feng stood beside the Silvermoon Wolf’s corpse, letting out a long sigh of relief. At this moment, the four flying knives danced around Luo Feng before settling into the knife pouches on his pants. “Hmm? Where are the other two flying knives?” Luo Feng scanned his surroundings.
His gaze fell upon two deep craters in the concrete ground ahead, the ground itself cracked from the impact. Deep within these craters lay the two 6-series flying knives!
This sight made Luo Feng gasp.
The Silvermoon Wolf’s speed and claw strength were incredibly powerful.
“To prevent other squads from discovering me, I’ll dissect this corpse first. This Silvermoon Wolf is worth a fortune.” Luo Feng didn’t dare to think further. He immediately took a flying knife and began dissecting the Silvermoon Wolf’s corpse. His current weapon, the Blood Shadow Battle Blade, was only 5-series, suitable for fighting mid-level beast generals.
His flying knives, however, were 6-series. They could battle high-level beast generals!
Following the already gaping wound on the Silvermoon Wolf’s abdomen, Luo Feng exerted force, and the flying knife slashed down!
“Huh?”
Luo Feng’s eyes widened. Even with the already torn hide, his flying knife, wielded with full strength, couldn’t cut it further. This was unbelievable! It was common knowledge that dissecting a monster without wounds was the most difficult, but once there was a large wound, the difficulty significantly decreased. Alas… Luo Feng’s strength was insufficient to cut through a high-level beast general’s corpse!
“Damn, it seems even dissecting monsters is high-difficulty,” Luo Feng chuckled, immediately using his mental force to control a flying knife.
The power of mental force was far greater than his arm strength.
“Splat!” Along the tear in the fur, the hovering flying knife sliced down, producing a tearing sound as the wound rapidly expanded.
“It takes so much effort even when I use mental force to control the flying knife for cutting?” Luo Feng was astonished. With a thought, he controlled the hovering flying knife to stab a pristine section of the back fur. The Silvermoon Wolf’s back was only slightly indented, but its fur showed no damage whatsoever.
Luo Feng was stunned: “This is insane!”
“I really struck gold this time,” Luo Feng couldn’t help but exclaim. “Its speed reached supersonic levels, and its attack power was immense. Even its most valuable fur defense is astonishingly high. If it had been in perfect condition when I encountered it, my chances of victory would probably have been only twenty to thirty percent!” Against a peak Silvermoon Wolf, Luo Feng’s flying knives would only be effective against vulnerable spots like its eyes, ears, or nose. Given the Silvermoon Wolf’s agility, Luo Feng’s chances were indeed very low; twenty to thirty percent was already quite good.
“Splat!”
“Swish!”
Luo Feng quickly dissected the corpse, first peeling off the entire magical and expensive hide. Then, he cut off all of the Silvermoon Wolf’s hard claws, which were valuable materials for crafting high-grade Kro-alloy, fetching extremely high prices. He also collected the Silvermoon Wolf’s extremely hard ‘skull,’ its fangs, and its two unique eyeballs.
Anything of high value, Luo Feng meticulously collected and placed into his backpack.
It was well known that many special products in human society were invented using materials from monsters.
“All done.”
Luo Feng let out a long sigh of relief. The once massive Silvermoon Wolf corpse was now just a pile of flesh. Luo Feng controlled his flying knives back into their pouches, feeling a sense of awe. He hadn’t expended much mental force killing the Silvermoon Wolf, but dissecting the corpse had consumed ten times more mental force than the battle itself!
“Regardless, it was a huge gain.”
“This time, I’ll earn a substantial amount of money.” Luo Feng smiled. The Fire Hammer Squad’s monetary distribution was based on each member’s contribution to the battle. Even if one was incredibly strong, if they didn’t contribute to hunting a particular monster, the Warrior Squad wouldn’t give them a single cent.
And the hunt for the Silvermoon Wolf was entirely Luo Feng’s solo effort.
Luo Feng would indeed receive a large sum of money.
“If someone found out I got this Silvermoon Wolf corpse, it would be troublesome.” Luo Feng chuckled. “Only a War God-tier Warrior could have severely wounded the Silvermoon Wolf. There was a tracking signal on its fur, but luckily I removed it.” Luo Feng had no desire to make an enemy of a Warrior capable of gravely injuring a Silvermoon Wolf.
So, he had to leave quickly!
Whoosh!
Luo Feng swiftly and quietly departed. Under the night sky, only the pile of flesh remained.
...
In the darkness, numerous monsters roamed the county town. The Tiger Fang Squad advanced cautiously.
“Damn it, that Hunter dares to run wild in the county town because it’s a beast general. Other monsters don’t dare provoke it. But we have to proceed carefully…” A burly, bald man walking alongside Zhang Zehu cursed. “Once we kill this Hunter, I’m going to roast and eat its meat. Nothing else will satisfy my fury!”
Zhang Zehu grinned beside him: “Don’t worry, that Hunter has our signal on it. It’s useless no matter where it runs.”
“Where is the Hunter?” the Tiger Fang Captain asked in a low voice from the front of the team.
“Captain, the Hunter is about thirteen li from us, but it’s not moving now. It should be resting there,” Dongzi, who handled the firearms, said with a smile, holding a locator.
The Tiger Fang Squad members were instantly overjoyed.
“Not moving?”
“Resting? Haha.”
Their biggest fear was the ‘Silvermoon Wolf’ Hunter frantically escaping. Zhang Zehu chuckled: “That Silvermoon Wolf probably thinks its hiding spot is safe enough to recover from its injuries. Little does it know our capabilities.”
“Go! We can’t miss this opportunity. It’s only thirteen li; we’ll be there soon.” The Tiger Fang Captain’s eyes gleamed with excitement as he said in a low voice, “Everyone, speed up. Maybe this time we can kill this Hunter.”
The Tiger Fang Squad’s pace immediately increased significantly.
Thirteen li. If a Warrior Squad truly rushed, even with monsters everywhere, they could reach it within half an hour.
...
About forty minutes later.
“The Silvermoon Wolf’s resting place is just ahead. Everyone be careful.” The Tiger Fang Captain subtly waved his hand. Immediately, the six members of the Tiger Fang Squad stealthily split into two teams, approaching the signal’s location from two directions, slowly encircling it. No one dared to speak.
The Silvermoon Wolf was very perceptive.
One step, two steps, three steps…
Everyone was extremely cautious.
“Move!” The Tiger Fang Captain waved his hand, and the other team, having received the signal, acted simultaneously.
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!
The two teams rushed into the alley from two directions, one from the front and one from the back, both about a hundred meters from the Silvermoon Wolf’s signal. All six members looked towards the center, where the Silvermoon Wolf should have been. But they saw no target, only… a faint scent of blood.
“Hmm?” The Tiger Fang Captain’s expression changed.
“Damn it!”
Almost all of the Tiger Fang Squad members rushed over, gathering around the pile of flesh. Beside this large pile of flesh was a clump of fur, faintly tinged with silver!
“Bastard.” Zhang Zehu clutched the fur, cursing, “Someone stole our prize!”
Many Warrior Squads knew the common practice of leaving tracking signals on severely injured monsters. Luo Feng also knew this, and combined with the Silvermoon Wolf’s existing injuries, he suspected a tracking device. So, with a sweep of his mental force, he discovered the peculiar clump of fur and immediately severed it.
“Bastard!” The Tiger Fang Captain gritted his teeth, his face contorted in rage.
“All that effort for nothing!” The one-eyed middle-aged man beside him said, his face grim with anger.
“Go.” The Tiger Fang Captain’s eyes flashed with a cold light as he growled, “Daring to snatch our prize, stealing from under our noses—they’re asking for death! That Warrior Squad, having just dissected the corpse, will likely head straight for a supply base for safety! So… all Tiger Fang brothers, we’re heading to the supply base immediately, at maximum speed! We’ll try to catch them midway.”
“Yes, Captain,” the five men immediately responded.
“Depart.” The murderous Tiger Fang Captain waved his hand, and the Tiger Fang Squad members, equally seething with rage, followed their captain towards the supply base.
