Chapter 10
Prospective Warrior Assessment
“Mom, Dad, I’m heading to the Extreme Martial Arts Dojo in the city center. I probably won’t be back for lunch today,” Luo Feng said, standing up after finishing a large bowl of porridge and three flatbreads. “Just wait for my good news today. The moment I pass the assessment, I’ll call you immediately.”
His mother, Gong Xinlan, smiled, glancing at Luo Hongguo. “Hong Guo, did you hear that? Make sure you keep your phone with you. Wouldn’t want our son to not be able to reach you.”
“I’ll definitely have it,” Luo Hongguo chuckled.
“Alright, I’m off.”
Luo Feng winked at his younger brother, Luo Hua, who grinned and gave him a thumbs-up.
Early that morning, Luo Feng left the South Bank Residential District, taking Metro Line 11 to ‘Zhong’an Road Station,’ then transferring to Line 1. He arrived in the central area of Yangzhou City, and after exiting the subway, walked for another ten minutes before reaching the headquarters of the Extreme Martial Arts Dojo in Yangzhou City—the Extreme Martial Arts Dojo.
He had left home just after six, but by the time Luo Feng reached his destination, it was almost eight in the morning.
“Is this the legendary Mingyue Residential District?” Luo Feng stood outside the entrance of a quiet residential district. This district was called ‘Mingyue Residential District,’ and the Extreme Martial Arts Dojo was located within it.
“Sir, this is the Mingyue Residential District. Do not approach.”
At the district entrance, a line of six soldiers stood, clad in military uniforms and armed with live weapons. Their uniforms clearly indicated they belonged to the military, not the police. One soldier barked at Luo Feng, “Sir, please step back. If you cross the yellow line, we have the right to shoot you on sight!”
“Just as the rumors said,” Luo Feng mused inwardly.
The Mingyue Residential District was the main base of the Extreme Martial Arts Dojo in Yangzhou City!
Not only did it house the Extreme Martial Arts Dojo, but it was also the residential area for the families of Warriors under the Extreme Martial Arts Dojo.
“Rumor has it that only Warriors and their families live here! Even the police aren’t allowed to trespass,” Luo Feng thought, amazed.
“Gentlemen,” Luo Feng said, standing at the district entrance. “I am Luo Feng, a senior student of the Extreme Martial Arts Dojo. I’m here to take the Prospective Warrior Assessment.” The Extreme Martial Arts Dojo held the Prospective Warrior Assessment on the first of every month.
“Oh?” An elderly man with graying hair emerged from the guard’s lounge beside the district, holding a handheld computer. “Young man, you’re quite early, arriving before eight. Taking the Prospective Warrior Assessment at such a young age, your future is boundless. Alright, let me see your ID and senior student card.”
Luo Feng handed over his ID and student card.
“Beep!” The ID and senior student card were swiped across the handheld computer, and information flashed across its screen.
“Eighteen years old?” The gray-haired elder looked at Luo Feng in surprise, then smiled. “Eighteen, and already daring to take the Prospective Warrior Assessment. Excellent. I hope you pass today.”
“Thank you, sir,” Luo Feng replied.
“Let him in,” the gray-haired elder waved his hand.
Instantly, the district’s electric gate slid open. A soldier with an assault rifle stepped forward, walking beside Luo Feng. “Sir, I’ll escort you to the Extreme Martial Arts Dojo. Please, do not wander once inside the district! You only have permission to enter the Extreme Martial Arts Dojo, not the Warrior family residential area. If you violate this rule, even if I don’t act, my patrolling comrades will.” The soldier finished with a grin at Luo Feng.
“Understood,” Luo Feng nodded with a smile, a hint of surprise in his heart.
The nation and the Extreme Martial Arts Dojo indeed had a cooperative relationship. At the very least, the core area of the Extreme Martial Arts Dojo was under strict protection.
“Wow, individual villas, one after another,” Luo Feng observed. Aside from the towering Extreme Martial Arts Dojo in the center of the district, the rest of the area was filled with scattered, well-arranged detached villas, complete with rock gardens, ponds, and lawns between them.
In the heart of the Mingyue Residential District, inside the Extreme Martial Arts Dojo, the soldier departed once Luo Feng entered the main hall.
“Sir, are you here for the Prospective Warrior Assessment?” a sweet-faced young woman in the Dojo’s main hall asked with a smile. “Please take a seat over there. The Prospective Warrior Assessment will begin for everyone at ten o’clock.”
Luo Feng nodded and walked towards the side of the main hall, where a small bar was set up with a waiter and a bartender.
“Hmm?” Luo Feng glanced around. Three people were already seated in the small bar area.
Two of them were chatting, while the third sat silently on another sofa.
“Look, those villas over there are the perks for Warriors who join the Extreme Martial Arts Dojo,” a young man in white clothes and white pants excitedly said. “As long as you become a Warrior and join the Extreme Martial Arts Dojo, you get one allocated for free. And you can live here from then on... Tsk, tsk, look at this environment, how comfortable.”
“A Warrior residential district is naturally different from ordinary ones outside. Look, a newcomer,” the three noticed Luo Feng. Luo Feng gave them a slight nod and sat down on a nearby sofa.
Since they didn’t know each other, no one spoke.
As time passed, three more people arrived. Luo Feng didn’t recognize them either, but they appeared older, likely over thirty, with some possibly even over forty.
“Ha, Luo Feng!” a loud voice boomed. Luo Feng was startled and turned to see a lean man with a fierce scar on his face approaching. “You’re here for the Prospective Warrior Assessment too?”
“Brother Yang?” Luo Feng quickly stood up to greet him.
“It’s embarrassing to admit, but last month I came to test once. Unfortunately, my speed only reached 24.9 meters per second. Just that tiny bit short, and I didn’t pass!” Yang Wu said helplessly. In truth, Yang Wu had already met the requirements for punch force and reaction speed; speed was his only weakness.
However, since the beginning of the year, Yang Wu had steadily improved his speed. The difference between 24.9 meters and 25 meters wasn’t significant; a slightly better day could easily push him to 25 meters.
“I’m sure you’ll pass this time, Brother Yang,” Luo Feng smiled.
“This Yang fellow has tested several times and never passed. I doubt he will this time either,” a loud voice came from nearby.
Luo Feng looked over; the speaker was a burly man with a full beard. Yang Wu immediately glared. “Tong, you’re talking about me? Didn’t you also fail twice? From the looks of your reaction speed, you’ll probably need another two or three years of hard training.”
“Quiet down,” a cold voice commanded from the center of the hall. All eight people present immediately turned to look. A middle-aged man in loose training clothes glanced at them. “Come on, everyone, follow me upstairs. The Prospective Warrior Assessment is about to begin. Remember, be respectful upstairs. The Chief Instructor of our Yangzhou City Dojo has an old friend visiting today, so don’t cause any trouble.”
“Yes, sir,” everyone respectfully replied, from the previously arrogant bearded man to Yang Wu and Luo Feng.
“The Chief Instructor’s old friend?” Luo Feng couldn’t help but wonder.
It was known that Yangzhou City had one Extreme Martial Arts Dojo (headquarters) and twelve Extreme Martial Arts Dojos (branches). The masters of the district Extreme Martial Arts Dojos were called ‘Instructors,’ while the master of the headquarters Extreme Martial Arts Dojo was known as the ‘Chief Instructor.’
After entering the elevator, the middle-aged man in loose athletic wear pressed ‘6’.
“Beep!” The elevator arrived on the sixth floor.
Whoosh! The elevator doors opened, revealing a massive Training Hall. Over a dozen people were gathered inside, including Instructor Jiang Nian, whom Luo Feng recognized.
“They’re here, stop chatting,” a middle-aged man with long, flowing hair said. The dozen-plus people in the Training Hall turned to look at Luo Feng and the other seven. Under their gaze, Luo Feng and the others felt a tightening in their chests; they knew that, aside from service staff, everyone usually present in the Extreme Martial Arts Dojo was a Warrior.
In other words, all dozen of them were Warriors! After all, this was the main base of the Extreme Martial Arts Dojo in all of Yangzhou City.
“Prepare for the test,” the middle-aged man with flowing hair instructed.
Luo Feng had seen this long-haired middle-aged man online; he was none other than Wu Tong, the master of the Extreme Martial Arts Dojo and the Chief Instructor of Yangzhou City.
“One by one, hand me your IDs first.” The Warrior who had led Luo Feng and the other seven upstairs collected their IDs and handed them directly to Chief Instructor Wu Tong, smiling. “Chief, quite a few people today. Eight of them!”
“Hm,” Wu Tong casually took an ID and swiped it across the open instrument beside him.
Beep! A crystal-clear, seemingly transparent screen popped up on the instrument, displaying a wealth of personal information.
“First up, Tong Guan,” the Chief Instructor said indifferently. “Punch force test. It’s interesting how even those from the military come to my Extreme Martial Arts Dojo for assessment.”
Hearing this, Luo Feng, standing nearby, couldn’t help but smile. The Extreme Martial Arts Dojo was founded by the world’s strongest individual, with branches spread across the globe. Its assessments carried immense credibility and high value. Test results from the Extreme Martial Arts Dojo were recognized in every country and region worldwide.
Even those from the military or from family-inherited cultivation traditions preferred to take their assessments at the Extreme Martial Arts Dojo.
“Test punch force,” the Chief Instructor ordered.
“Yes, sir.” The burly bearded man immediately stepped forward, his eyes wide. With his left hand guarding his face, his right fist arced and slammed into the giant punching target. The target barely trembled. The punch force testing machine’s screen immediately displayed the number—‘986kg’.
“Pass. Next, Luo Feng.” The Chief Instructor casually swiped the second ID on the instrument, then, after reviewing the detailed identity information, exclaimed in surprise, “Huh, eighteen years old? Old Jiang, this one’s from your Yian District, isn’t he? When did such a talented young man emerge?”
“Haha,” Instructor Jiang Nian, standing nearby, couldn’t help but let out a hearty, proud laugh.
“Whether he has real strength is still hard to say,” one of the dozen or so Warriors, a very corpulent old man, scoffed with a teasing smile. “He might just be here to see the world, without any actual ability.”
Instructor Jiang Nian shot him a glance. “What, jealous? You don’t have such a genius in your Beiyou District, do you? Luo Feng, show them the strength of our Yian District students!”
“Yes, Instructor!” Luo Feng stepped forward, responding loudly, then walked towards the punch force testing machine.
